Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, SLE is a chronic autoimmune condition in which the immune system produces antibodies that attack the body's own tissues and organs. Unlike most autoimmune conditions that target a specific tissue, the thyroid in Hashimoto's, the joints in RA lupus are genuinely systemic. It can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, heart, lungs, brain, and blood simultaneously. This systemic reach is what makes lupus one of the most complex and unpredictable autoimmune conditions and also what makes identifying and addressing the upstream immune drivers so critical. The immune system has lost tolerance broadly, not just in one location, which means the root causes driving that loss of tolerance need to be identified and addressed at the level of the terrain, not managed organ by organ.
